Tulip Festival History

Tulips hold a significant place in Dutch culture largely due to the historical "Tulip Mania" in the 17th century when tulips became a luxury item and status symbol, leading to an economic bubble. Today, the Netherlands is synonymous with tulips and remains the world's largest producer and exporter of tulip bulbs. Each year, the country celebrates this heritage with the Keukenhof Gardens display and numerous tulip festivals that attract visitors globally. Tulips symbolize the start of spring and are a key element in Dutch horticultural industry and cultural identity.
